The leaders of Uzbekistan and China discussed new projects worth tens of billions of dollars

On June 17, talks were held between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Chairman of the PRC Xi Jinping. The parties confirmed the unprecedented level of bilateral relations of comprehensive strategic partnership.
During the talks, the leaders noted with satisfaction that Uzbek-Chinese relations have reached an unprecedented high level of strategic partnership in all circumstances. The agreements reached during the President of Uzbekistan's visit to Beijing in January 2024 are being consistently implemented.
The high dynamics of political and interdepartmental contacts was noted. The Strategic Dialogue of Foreign Ministers was launched, and the Second Forum of Regions was successfully held in Samarkand.
Special attention was paid to economic cooperation. In 2024, the trade turnover between the two countries reached $14 billion, and the portfolio of joint investment projects exceeded $60 billion. Industrial zones, technoparks, and the production of "BYD" electric vehicles are being jointly developed.
One of the priority topics of the negotiations was the implementation of major infrastructure projects, in particular, the acceleration of the construction of the China - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan strategic railway line.
The leaders confirmed their commitment to deepening humanitarian cooperation. A branch of the Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University of the People's Republic of China operates in Uzbekistan, an International Mathematical Center has been established in Urgench, the activities of the Confucius Institute are being actively developed, and the Chinese vocational education system "Lu Ban's Workshop" is being implemented.
Cross-cultural and art weeks are planned for 2026. At the same time, Uzbekistan and China will continue to coordinate their positions within the framework of the UN, SCO, the "Central Asia - China" format, and other international platforms.
The main outcome of the negotiations was the signing of the Protocol on the completion of bilateral negotiations on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, which opens up new prospects for the country's integration into the global economy.
