At the meeting, measures taken for the speedy entry of Uzbekistan into the WTO were discussed. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala highly appreciated the measures taken by Uzbekistan regarding membership in the organization.
On September 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, held a meeting with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The press service of the head of state reported this.
It was noted that the measures taken to ensure Uzbekistan’s early accession to the WTO were discussed at the meeting. Shavkat Mirziyoyev especially emphasized the importance of joining the organization, based on the country’s medium- and long-term development goals.
The President of Uzbekistan focused on preparations for the next meeting of the working group, as well as on issues of capacity-building and advanced training of specialists participating in the process.
The WTO Director General highly appreciated the measures taken by Uzbekistan regarding membership in the organization.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed confidence that the WTO Secretariat will fully support the efforts of Uzbekistan and the country will join the organization in the near future.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to speed up preparations for the next meeting of the working group, improve the qualifications of specialists and bring legislation into compliance with WTO agreements and rules.
