The United States has officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America

The U.S. Department of the Interior has announced that the Gulf of Mexico will now be known as the Gulf of America. Additionally, the highest peak in North America, Denali in Alaska, has been renamed Mount McKinley once again.
According to CBS News, the changes in these two geographical names were made based on a decision by President Donald Trump.
In a statement from the department, the renaming of these landmarks was described as a way to "preserve the great heritage of the United States, inspire a sense of respect for the legacy of heroes in future generations, and honor historical monuments with reverence."
Notably, the department clarified that while the name "Gulf of America" will be used in federal references, other countries are not obligated to recognize this name. This means the decision applies solely within the country’s borders.
It is worth recalling that in 2015, Mount McKinley was renamed Denali by then-President Barack Obama in honor of the traditional name used by Alaska's Indigenous people. Previously, the mountain was officially named after former U.S. President William McKinley, who was assassinated in 1901.
