The US House of Representatives has approved the defense budget for 2025 without extending the lend-lease program for Ukraine. This was announced by Ukraine's Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, on her Facebook page.

What is lend-lease? This term originated during World War II. Lend-lease is an international agreement under which allied countries received military equipment, food, and other goods on a credit or lease basis.

Markarova stated that initially, the proposal to extend lend-lease was included in the US bill. Ukraine actively promoted this proposal. However, it was not included in the final version of the bill.

The Ambassador also emphasized that Ukrainian diplomats will continue to work on preserving this mechanism, particularly within the framework of the "Stand with Ukraine Act" bill, which has been adopted by both houses of Congress.

US President Joe Biden signed the lend-lease law for Ukraine on May 9, 2022, several months after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.
