US President Donald Trump, commenting on the election of the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, stated that his "number one option" is to become Pope himself. He jokingly told reporters about this, noting that he has no preferences among possible candidates for the post of pontiff.
"I would like to be Papa. This would be my number one choice," Trump said with a laugh.
Meanwhile, the date of the conclave - the cardinals' meeting - has been officially set in the Vatican, where a new pope will be elected on May 7th. To win, the candidate must receive two-thirds of the 138 votes.
The previous Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at the age of 88. His funeral was held on April 26.
