This was announced by Republicans during a press conference held in the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday, April 2. The base rate will be 10%.

Trump called this decision a "historic order setting reciprocal tariffs for the world's countries." "Reciprocal means: whatever they do to us, we will do the same to them," said the U.S. president. "I think this is one of the most important days in American history."

According to the table presented by Trump:

The tariff rate for the European Union is 20%;

Taiwan – 32%;

Japan – 24%;

South Africa – 30%;

Switzerland – 31%.

For countries such as the United Kingdom, Egypt, Turkey, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Singapore, and Uzbekistan, a minimum base tariff of 10% has been set.

Additionally, starting today, April 3, the U.S. is imposing a 25% tariff on imports of passenger cars, light trucks, and auto parts.

Donald Trump even imposed a 10% tariff on the Heard and McDonald Islands, where no one lives. The population of these islands is zero, but they are home to a large penguin population. This most remote landmass in the world is located in the southern Indian Ocean and is an external territory of Australia.

According to the U.S. Treasury Department, "Trump's new tariffs against China have been added to the previous ones, bringing the total tariff on Chinese imports to 54%."
