Trump meets with Japanese Prime Minister
Political
US President Donald Trump will hold his first meeting with Japan's new Prime Minister, Sigeru Isiba, on Friday. The focus of the negotiations is on strengthening economic and military cooperation amid escalating tensions with China.
Japan, as one of the largest trading partners of the USA, is preparing for harsh demands from Washington. Trump has already imposed 10% tariffs on Chinese imports, threatening to extend them to other countries, including Japan. In response, Tokyo is considering the possibility of purchasing a larger volume of American LNG, supporting the gas project in Alaska, and investing in American technologies.
The political agenda of the talks also covers territorial disputes in Asia, the situation around Taiwan, and Tokyo's concerns about China's ambitions. Despite possible disagreements, the parties plan to reaffirm their strategic partnership and shared vision of global challenges.
