According to Trump, the flotilla is a “large armada” that may not be used but is being closely monitored by the US. He stressed that the US response would be “stronger than ever before” and would surpass the June 2025 strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The executions were reportedly canceled an hour before they were scheduled, which Trump called a “good sign.”

Earlier reports indicated that the naval group is led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Trump said that US strikes on Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities in summer 2025 were intended to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies any military purpose in its nuclear program.

The commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned the US that Iranian forces “have their finger on the trigger.” Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called for no leniency toward “internal criminals.”

Trump responded by saying it is “time to seek new leadership for Iran,” calling Khamenei “a sick man.”
