On 22 December, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine unilaterally cancelled the free trade agreement with Belarus and extended the ban on trade with Russia until 31 January 2024. This was reported by the Ukrainian Economics Ministry.

"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has initiated the termination of the intergovernmental agreement on free trade with Belarus and extended the ban on trade with Russia. The relevant decisions were taken at a government meeting on 22 December," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

It is noted that the cabinet approved a draft law cancelling the free trade agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Belarus and a number of other documents ensuring free trade between the countries. Also by another decision, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine extended the ban on trade with Russia until 31 January 2024.

Taras Kachka, Ukraine's deputy economy minister, said that trade relations between Ukraine and Belarus, as well as Russia, have been non-existent for almost two years. "With the above decisions, we are only bringing the contractual and legal framework in line with the realities," he said.
