UN Secretary-General warns against Red Sea escalation
A statement issued on behalf of UN Secretary-General António Guterres labelled attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea region as "unacceptable".

He called on all parties involved in the conflict not to exacerbate the tensions of the situation in the interests of peace and stability in the Red Sea region. The UN Secretary-General noted that actions that could aggravate the situation in Yemen should be avoided. He also expressed hope that efforts to resolve the conflict in Yemen will be successful and will lead to peace in the region.

Guterres also emphasised that attacks threaten the security of global supply chains and negatively affect the economic and humanitarian situation around the world.
