Up to 1 Billion UZS Subsidy Allocated for Fruit and Vegetable Processing Equipment
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan will provide subsidies of up to 1 billion UZS for equipment purchased for fruit and vegetable processing. This announcement was made by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a videoconference meeting.
Entrepreneurs face difficulties ensuring consistent and high-quality exports of a single product type since they primarily source fruits and vegetables from household plots. Consequently, export revenues remain low.
It was noted that there are ample opportunities to export $3.5 billion worth of fruits and vegetables next year. To support this goal, 1 million hectares of land designated for fruit and vegetable cultivation have been assigned to 760 seed production and 824 export companies.
A new pilot project is being launched in the Tashkent region and Namangan. Land previously used for cotton and grain production will be auctioned in large lots of up to 50 hectares and sold to professional investors for creating industrial plantations. On plots of up to 20 sotiks (0.2 hectares), the construction of shock freezing facilities, calibration workshops, and packaging units will be allowed.
The meeting also highlighted the emergence of 142 "champion" entrepreneurs in the country—companies employing over 5,000 workers, generating annual revenues exceeding 1 trillion UZS, and paying at least 100 billion UZS in taxes.
