US changes visa procedures: new rules for Uzbekistanis
Uzbekistan
Starting September 6, the U.S. State Department has introduced new rules: foreign nationals must now apply for non-immigrant visas and attend interviews only at U.S. embassies in their home countries. For citizens of Uzbekistan, this means applying exclusively at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent.
Previously, applicants could seek visas at embassies or consulates abroad. Now this option will remain available only to those who hold permanent residency in another country.
Russian citizens will have their interviews in Astana (Kazakhstan) or Warsaw (Poland), Belarusians in Warsaw or Vilnius (Lithuania), and Ukrainians in Warsaw or Krakow (Poland).
The State Department clarified that already scheduled appointments will not be canceled, though applicants applying through third countries should expect “significantly longer” wait times.
Exceptions apply to diplomats, staff of international organizations, and in cases of urgent humanitarian or medical needs.
Earlier, the U.S. announced a review of all 55 million valid visas and temporarily suspended visa issuance for foreign truck drivers.
