US Held Nuclear Arms Control Talks With Russia in Geneva

US representatives met with a Russian delegation in Geneva to discuss a potential multilateral nuclear arms control treaty, with a meeting with the Chinese delegation planned for Tuesday, according to Reuters sources in the US State Department.
Washington is advocating for a new, broader arms control agreement that would include both Russia and China after the expiration of the START treaty.
Diplomatic efforts aim to create an international framework limiting the nuclear capabilities of major military powers.
Chinese disarmament envoy Shen Jian previously stated that China is not ready to participate in new trilateral nuclear talks with the US and Russia.
The US has alleged that China conducted a secret nuclear test in June 2020, which was denied by Chinese officials.
Senior US officials told Reuters that bilateral talks were also held with the United Kingdom and France, both permanent members of the UN Security Council.
