Uzbekistan and Georgia Expand Tourism Cooperation at First Industry Forum in Samarkand
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan and Georgia are seeking to expand direct cooperation between tourism companies and jointly develop new tourism offerings. The first Uzbekistan-Georgia Tourism Forum was held in Samarkand on August 17, bringing together more than 80 representatives of the tourism industry from both countries.
The event was attended by Sanjar Tadjiev, Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Natali Kvachantiradze, Chairwoman of the Georgian Tourism Association. The forum followed agreements reached during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Georgia on July 2–3, 2026.
Discussions focused on developing joint tourism packages and new routes, expanding direct air connectivity, and promoting cultural and historical, wellness, medical and health, pilgrimage, gastronomic, ecological, adventure and MICE tourism.
Participants also discussed joint promotion of the two countries’ tourism potential through digital platforms, reciprocal familiarization and media tours, and joint participation in international tourism exhibitions. The forum’s business programme included B2B meetings between tour operators, providing an opportunity to discuss joint tourism products and establish new business contacts.
According to figures presented in the forum materials, the number of tourists arriving in Uzbekistan from Georgia increased by 25.9% in January–July 2026. Overall, around 7.75 million foreign tourists visited Uzbekistan during the first seven months of the year, up 22.6% from the same period in 2025. Tourism services exports reached approximately $3.9 billion.
