Uzbekistan exposed a scheme of multimillion-dollar smuggling
Uzbekistan
One of the largest drug smuggling schemes was uncovered in Surkhandarya region. Customs officials prevented an attempt to smuggle 612 kg of hashish, masked in thousands of brushes. According to preliminary data, the value of the seized cargo on the black market is about $16.5 million.
On February 9, at the "Ayritom" customs post, security service officers stopped a truck carrying 13.5 tons of brushes, which was passing through the territory of Uzbekistan. The documents did not arouse suspicion, but the inspection revealed anomalies in the weight of some brushes.
For thorough inspection, the cargo was sent to the warehouse of the "Termez" foreign economic customs post. Detailed inspection revealed that 2,986 brooms contained approximately 25 cm long polyethylene wrappers tightly wrapped with yellow tape. Each contained approximately 200 grams of hashish.
Law enforcement agencies have already launched an investigation to identify the organizers of the criminal scheme and their accomplices. According to preliminary data, the drugs originated from Afghanistan, which remains one of the world's largest producers of hashish.
Special services are strengthening control at the border to prevent drug trafficking both to Uzbekistan and transit to other countries. An investigation is underway, and in the near future, it is expected that the individuals involved in the criminal scheme will be apprehended.
