Uzbekistan hosts AIIB annual meeting in 2024

Uzbekistan became a member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank on 30 November 2016. To date, the AIIB's broader investment portfolio in Uzbekistan includes 13 projects worth more than US$2.4 billion in the areas of energy, infrastructure development, transport and healthcare.
The 9th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will be held in September 2024 in the city of Samarkand, it was announced at a ceremony in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt to mark the conclusion of the 2023 AIIB Annual Meeting and handover of the 2024 AIIB Annual Meeting to the host country.
Laziz Kudratov, AIIB Governor of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the AIIB Governing Council and host of the AIIB 2024 Annual Meeting in Uzbekistan, accepted the gavel, the symbol of the host, from Dr Mohamed Maait, AIIB Governor of Egypt and Chairman of the AIIB Governing Council in 2023, in a solemn ceremony.
"We appreciate the continued support from the governments of Uzbekistan and Egypt. The AIIB Annual Meetings are an important platform to discuss best practices and opportunities for our shareholders in relation to our bank's strategic direction and initiatives, and to identify strategies for sustainable economic growth and making a positive impact," said AIIB President Jin Liqun.
"We are delighted to welcome our valued members and bank members to Samarkand for AIIB's 9th Annual Meeting in 2024. We look forward to supporting AIIB in this annual exchange and engaging in future dialogues on how the AIIB community can work together to achieve our common goals. This event will also be a valuable opportunity for us to showcase our strong cooperation with the bank and highlight the bank's immense contribution to Uzbekistan and Central Asia," said Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov.
