Uzbekistan may soon join the ranks of nations hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix. According to British motorsport analyst Joe Saward, Tashkent is exploring the possibility of bringing the world’s most prestigious racing event to the country — a move aligned with its broader strategy to develop sports infrastructure and strengthen its international image.

Prominent British journalist and F1 expert Joe Saward has reported that Uzbekistan is among several Asian countries discussing the prospect of hosting a Formula 1 race. The discussions reportedly took place on the sidelines of the Singapore Grand Prix, with Thailand, South Korea, and Uzbekistan expressing interest in staging their own events.

Saward noted that Tashkent aims to become a regional motorsport hub, viewing international racing as a key part of its modernization agenda and global outreach efforts.

Adding to this momentum, Uzbekistan is set to host the General Assembly of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in December, fully financed by the Uzbek side — another sign of the country’s growing commitment to global motorsport.

According to Saward, the country’s growing interest in Formula 1 reflects its broader goals of expanding sports infrastructure and enhancing its international standing.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has also achieved remarkable progress in other sports: the national football team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history — a landmark success for Uzbek athletics.
