The war between Israel and Hamas might have "serious" repercussions for the global economy, World Bank President Ajay Banga said.

Speaking at an investor conference in Saudi Arabia, Banga said: "What has happened recently in Israel and the Gaza Strip - at the end of the day, if you put it all together, I think the consequences for economic development are even more serious."

"I think we are at a very dangerous juncture," he noted.

The war has already hit Israel's economy, forcing the Bank of Israel to cut its growth forecasts, and there are growing fears around the world that the conflict could extend beyond its current borders into a regional war.
