According to Russia's ambassador to Beijing, Igor Morgulov, Chinese President Xi Jinping has accepted the invitation to visit Moscow on May 9 for the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory. Additionally, he has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to China for events commemorating the end of World War II and the victory over Japan. Morgulov announced this on Russia 24 TV channel on February 10.
Beijing has yet to provide an official comment on Xi Jinping’s possible visit to Russia. The last time the Chinese leader visited Moscow was in March 2023, when Russian President Vladimir Putin was making nuclear threats during the war against Ukraine. Xi Jinping last attended Moscow’s Victory Parade in 2015.
The Japanese broadcaster NHK, citing sources, reported that North Korean (DPRK) military personnel would participate in the 2024 Victory Parade in Moscow.
On January 15, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov announced the beginning of preparations for the parade, which will be held in Moscow, eight hero cities, and 19 other cities where military headquarters are located. According to him, military units from 19 "friendly" countries have been invited, with 10, including seven former Soviet republics, confirming their participation.
According to the online publication Meduza, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Palestinian National Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva are expected to attend the parade in Moscow.
In 2022, amid Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, many world leaders refused to participate in Moscow's Victory Parade.
