Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that Ukrainian territory under his control should be brought under the “Nato umbrella” to help stop the “hot stage” of the war with Russia.

Zelenskyy: Ukrainian Territory Should Be Under ‘Nato Umbrella’ to Stop War
Zelenskyy said: “If we want to stop the hot stage of the war, we should bring the territory of Ukraine we control under the Nato umbrella. This needs to be done quickly, and then Ukraine can regain the rest of its territory diplomatically.”

He added that this proposal has “never been considered” by Ukraine because no one has ever officially offered it to them.

In the same interview, Zelenskyy emphasized that any invitation should be made “within its internationally recognized borders,” and “you can’t make an invitation to just one part of a country.”

In October, Zelenskyy revealed his victory plan. According to the Associated Press, the plan to win the country’s fight against Russia’s invasion could bring peace next year, he said, but it contains a step that some crucial Western allies have so far refused to consider: inviting Ukraine to join Nato before the war ends.

During the interview, the president also mentioned that Russian drone and missile attacks had damaged civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, leaving more than one million people without heat and electricity in freezing conditions.
