The deployment of a permanent presence by Europe’s largest financial institution in Central Asia marks a qualitatively new stage in the region's integration into global economic chains and unlocks direct access to large-scale credit resources and advanced technical expertise. On the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF-2026), the official opening ceremony of the European Investment Bank (EIB) regional representation for Central Asia took place.

As noted by the bank's Vice-President Marek Mora, the rapid transformations in the region and the high demand for quality investments necessitated a permanent presence, which will allow the bank to act faster and build closer cooperation with partners. According to the Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, the opening of the office will provide essential support in executing complex, socially significant projects.

To date, the total volume of operations under consideration, including already signed agreements and memorandums of understanding between the EIB and the government of Uzbekistan, stands at €1 billion. The pipeline of initiatives is directly synchronized with the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy and Europe’s Global Gateway program. Key pillars of cooperation encompass the development of environmentally sustainable transport within the Trans-Caspian corridor, the transition to clean energy, water resource management, digital connectivity, as well as the localization of vaccine production and critical raw materials supply chains. One of the first practical steps of the new office was the signing of a declaration of intent with "Uzsuvtaminot" JSC to provide advisory support for the construction of the Surum wastewater treatment plant in the capital, with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day, which will significantly improve sanitation service quality for the population.
