A Conflict Erupts Between Israel and Hamas. Israel Declares Combat Readiness
World
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been placed on full combat readiness following Hamas’ announcement that it would halt the release of Israeli hostages. This was reported on Monday, February 10, by Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz. He called Hamas’ decision a "complete violation" of the previously agreed-upon ceasefire deal.
According to the IDF press service, additional forces have been deployed to the Gaza Strip, soldiers' and command units’ leave has been canceled, and the military is prepared for any possible scenarios.
On the same day, Hamas representatives announced a delay in the scheduled release of hostages on February 15. They claimed that Israel had failed to uphold the ceasefire terms. Hamas accused Israel of the following violations:
Preventing Palestinians from returning to northern Gaza,
Blocking the delivery of tents, fuel, medicine, and necessary equipment for clearing debris.
Hamas' statement triggered protests in Tel Aviv. On February 10, thousands of Israelis took to the streets, demanding that the government accelerate the end of the ceasefire and ensure the return of all Israeli hostages. Opposition politicians, who have been critical of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, joined the demonstrators.
It is worth noting that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect on January 19. As part of its initial phase, five exchanges took place between hostages captured by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023, and Palestinian prisoners.
