Uzbekistan Joins the Aarhus Convention
This Convention is an important international document aimed at protecting human rights to a healthy environment. It ensures access to and the use of environmental information by relevant government agencies, citizens, and the public.

As noted, the primary goal of this international document is to regulate interactions related to public participation in decision-making processes that may negatively impact ecology, the environment, and public health, as well as to ensure access to justice.

The Convention stipulates that government agencies and organizations must provide the public with necessary information on environmental components such as air, atmosphere, water, and soil upon request, as well as ensure public participation in developing programs and plans aimed at improving this sector.

According to senators, Uzbekistan’s accession to this Convention will contribute to the proper protection of human rights and freedoms in the field of ecology and environmental protection, the implementation of joint efforts to achieve environmental security in cooperation with foreign partners, and the further strengthening of the country’s positive international image and reputation.

At the end of the discussions, the law was approved by the senators.
