U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Russian and Ukrainian leaders, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, should meet to end the war.
Yesterday, during a press briefing at the White House, Trump emphasized that he believes a meeting between Putin and Zelensky is necessary to stop the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"I think President Putin and President Zelensky should meet. Why? Because we want to stop the killing of millions of people," Trump said.
On the same day, in an interview with Fox News Radio, he stated that Ukraine's participation in the peace negotiations is not mandatory. Nevertheless, the U.S. president emphasized that he will continue dialogue with both sides.
Additionally, Trump denied reports about a possible visit to Moscow on May 9 during his meeting with journalists. When asked whether he planned to attend the Victory Day celebrations of World War II in Russia, he replied: "No, I’m not going".
Earlier, the French magazine Le Point, citing unnamed sources, reported that Trump might attend the Moscow parade and meet with Putin.
However, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, refuted this information, stating that Trump’s visit to Moscow on May 9 is not planned.
When asked by journalists "Have the parties reached an agreement on this visit?", Peskov replied "No".
