Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Sign Historic Border Agreement

On February 21, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed a historic agreement on the state border in Bishkek. Government delegations held negotiations on the delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border at the "Ala-Archa" state residence. This was reported by 24.kg.
The negotiations were led by Saimumin Yatimov, head of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan. Kamchybek Tashiev, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, called this day historic for the people of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
"We have signed the final protocol on the delimitation of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan," he stated.
According to him, several documents were prepared during the negotiations, including:
A treaty on the state border,
Intergovernmental agreements, including those related to energy facilities and water resources,
An agreement on the joint use of roads and the construction of new highways.
The agreement, which was approved by the heads of intelligence services of both countries in Bishkek, will now be submitted to the presidents of the two nations for signing.
The total length of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is 970 kilometers. Before the negotiations, about 200 kilometers remained undefined. The most challenging areas were those where residential houses were arranged in a checkerboard pattern.
