Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan relations are moving beyond conventional bilateral cooperation, bringing together political, investment, transport, energy and humanitarian priorities. This assessment was given by Elchin Mirzabeyli, a member of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, in comments to Oxu.Az following Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s interview with Uzbekistan’s National News Agency.

Baku–Tashkent Alliance Becomes Part of Eurasia’s Emerging Geoeconomic Landscape
According to Mirzabeyli, political trust between Baku and Tashkent is increasingly supported by institutional mechanisms, including the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership, the Treaty on Allied Relations and the establishment of the Supreme Interstate Council.

Economic ties are also gaining practical depth. Bilateral trade reached $795 million in 2025, more than tripling over the year. Mirzabeyli highlighted the Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan Investment Company, established with $500 million in capital, as well as joint projects in industry and agriculture.

Energy and transport are emerging as strategic areas of cooperation. The Green Corridor Alliance involving Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan could provide a framework for cross-border renewable energy development, while linking the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway with the Middle Corridor and TRIPP could expand regional transit opportunities.

Mirzabeyli also pointed to Azerbaijan’s full participation in the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia. He described the shift from the “C5” to “C6” format as an indication of expanding regional cooperation.

The deputy further highlighted cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States, where Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are developing political, economic, transport and humanitarian ties.
