“The President has directed the Department of Defense to quickly deliver the necessary equipment to Ukraine,” “Between now and mid-January, we will deliver hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of extra rockets, and other critical capabilities necessary to help Ukraine defend its freedom and independence”, said Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Adviser.

Biden Announces Additional $725 Million in Military Aid to Ukraine
The Biden administration is rushing to send military equipment to Ukraine in a final attempt to bolster the country’s defense against the Russian invasion before Donald Trump takes office as U.S. president in January.

The newly announced $725 million aid package includes Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-drone weapons, artillery shells, long-range HIMARS rocket munitions, anti-tank missiles, and spare parts to repair damaged equipment from U.S. stockpiles, the State Department reported.

These weapons are being sent to Ukraine at a time when Russia is making gains toward the town of Pokrovsk in the east and while Ukrainian forces are preparing for an assault by Russian and North Korean troops in Russia’s Kursk region.

Trump has threatened to completely cut off aid to Ukraine once he takes office next month. This has pushed the White House to distribute the remaining $7 billion in aid approved by Congress before the end of Biden’s term. The aid announced this week is being provided under the Presidential drawdown authority from existing Pentagon stocks.

The White House emphasized that the surge in security assistance is intended to “place Ukrainian forces in the strongest possible position before Biden leaves office.” Trump and his top advisers have indicated plans to begin peace talks soon after taking office, including withholding military aid to pressure Kyiv into negotiations.

The package also includes anti-personnel mines recently approved by the Biden administration under specific restrictions to help Ukraine stabilize its frontlines in the east.
