Chinese Launches World's Largest GAES
World
China has recently launched the Fennin pumped storage hydroelectric power station (GAES), located in the city of Chende, Hebei Province. According to China’s State Grid Corporation, this facility is the largest GAES in the world. This project holds significant importance, not only for China but also for the global energy sector.
The installed capacity of the GAES is 3.6 GW, which allows it to produce 6.61 billion kWh of electricity annually. This amount of energy can play a crucial role in meeting China's energy demands. One of the main advantages of the GAES system is its ability to store and reuse energy, which helps minimize disruptions in the energy supply and ensures stability.
Officials expect the station to save 480,800 tons of standard fuel (in coal equivalent) annually and reduce carbon oxide emissions by 1.2 million tons. These changes will significantly contribute to China’s energy efficiency and its goals of achieving ecological sustainability.
