Dozens of New Locomotives to Arrive in Uzbekistan from China
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is launching a major railway modernization program — purchasing new locomotives from China, electrifying lines, and preparing to launch a high-speed route from Tashkent to Khiva.
As part of the national development plan, Uzbekistan will import 38 mainline and 50 shunting locomotives, including hybrid models, from China.
Between 2026 and 2030, the country plans to build over 150 kilometers of new railways and electrify 182 kilometers of existing lines.
Fifteen new suburban routes will also be launched, alongside major electrification projects along the “Nurafshan – Pskent – Buka – Bekabad – Bayavut – Yangiyer” and “Khavast – Dashtabad” lines.
Together with a South Korean partner, Uzbekistan will introduce six high-speed electric trains, with the first to operate on the “Tashkent – Urgench – Khiva” route next year.
