Erdogan: President Mirziyoyev turned Uzbekistan into the centre of attraction in the region

On June 6, 2024, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a joint press conference with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to the Anadolu news agency.
In his speech, President Erdogan noted that he was very pleased to welcome Mirziyoyev and his delegation to Ankara on the occasion of the 3rd meeting of the Türkiye-Uzbekistan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
Erdogan recalled that in 2018, he and Mirziyoyev established the Türkiye-Uzbekistan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, and in 2020, the countries elevated their relations to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
"I believe that thanks to these steps, we will achieve the target trade volume of 5 billion dollars in the shortest possible time," the Turkish leader noted.
Furthermore, President Erdogan highlighted that President Mirziyoyev, through his visionary leadership, has turned Uzbekistan into the centre of attraction in the region.
"He (Mirziyoyev) carried Uzbekistan to enviable points with the economic reforms he implemented in a wide range of fields, from energy to agriculture. I wholeheartedly congratulate my brother, who made Uzbekistan a prominent power in a short time," he said.
Erdogan stated that President Mirziyoyev is a close friend of Türkiye and has demonstrated this through decisive steps taken since he assumed office.
In his speech at the joint press conference, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev touched upon the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and emphasized that leading and developing countries, which defend democracy and human rights, turn a blind eye to the atrocities in Gaza: "This violence must be stopped, and a peace process must be initiated."
In the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, 18 agreements between the two countries were signed.
