EU member states' permanent representatives have agreed on another package of sanctions against Russia, announced the EU Council's chairing country, Belgium, on the social network X.
"EU Ambassadors just agreed on a powerful and substantial 14th package of sanctions in reaction to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. This package provides new targeted measures and maximises the impact of existing sanctions by closing loopholes," the post reads.
According to Western media, the sanctions may include restrictions on the use of EU infrastructure for the re-export of Russian liquefied natural gas, as well as measures against tankers carrying Russian oil. Additionally, the EU will expand its "blacklists," adding more than 40 new individuals and organizations.
Since February 2022, the EU has imposed 13 packages of sanctions against Russia, its citizens, and organizations. A total of 1,725 individuals and 420 legal entities are under European restrictions. EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds to those on the sanctions lists. Additionally, individuals face a travel ban, preventing them from entering the EU or transiting through its territory.
