Fidan on EU: Negotiations stalled due to Islamophobia

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that negotiations for the country's accession to the European Union have effectively been suspended due to Islamophobia.
Speaking in Ankara, Hakan Fidan emphasized that the EU is uncomfortable accepting a large Muslim country into its ranks, which has led to the actual freezing of Turkey's membership negotiations.
At a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he also noted that Turkey is closely monitoring the development of BRICS, but has not received an invitation to join the organization.
The Minister noted that, unlike the EU, which limits itself to a policy of identity, BRICS demonstrates inclusiveness by uniting countries with different cultures, religions, and civilizations.
"If Turkey had become a full member of the EU, it wouldn't have sought alternative alliances," Fidan added, hinting at Ankara's growing interest in BRICS. However, at the moment, the organization is not offering Turkey membership, focusing on its own institutionalization.
