FIFA has approved a record prize fund for the 2026 World Cup. It is now clear exactly how much the Uzbekistan national team is guaranteed to receive for its debut participation in the tournament, regardless of its on-field results.
FIFA has made a financial breakthrough by approving an unprecedented prize fund for the 2026 World Cup. The total amount to be distributed among national associations is $727 million, which is 50% more than the tournament in Qatar.
Of this amount, $655 million is intended as prize money for the 48 participating teams. The minimum guaranteed income for each team, including the Uzbekistan national team, will be $10.5 million. This amount consists of two parts: $9 million for participation (for places 33-48) and an additional $1.5 million for tournament preparation.
Thus, the historic qualification for the World Cup will already bring a substantial financial injection to Uzbek football. In case of successful performance in Group K against Portugal and Colombia and advancement to the playoffs, the prize money could increase significantly. For example, teams placed 17th-32nd will receive $11 million each, and the world champion will take home $50 million.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be held for the first time in three countries (USA, Canada, Mexico), will also be the first to feature 48 teams. The Uzbekistan national team will play in Group K against Portugal, Colombia, and the winner of the intercontinental playoffs.
