Gayané Umerova, Head of Uzbekistan’s Art and Culture Development Foundation and National Commission for UNESCO, has been elected Chair of the 25th General Assembly of the States Parties to the World Heritage Convention. The decision was announced at UNESCO’s 43rd General Conference in Samarkand.
Her election marks a significant recognition of Uzbekistan’s growing role in promoting cultural heritage and fostering international cooperation within UNESCO. The Assembly, comprising 195 member states, addresses key issues of heritage preservation, cultural policy, and sustainable development.
