On January 8th, Israeli military forces conducted airstrikes on multi-story buildings in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza city. As a result of the attack, 28 civilians were killed. Israel has not commented on the events. Hamas is demanding that Israel cease hostilities and withdraw its forces to free the hostages. Trump warned that if Hamas does not release Israeli hostages by January 20th, “their lives will be turned into hell.”

As Israel continues its attacks, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt are making their most serious efforts to reach a peace agreement over the past few months.

Meanwhile, Hamas has stated that it will stop fighting and free the remaining hostages if Israel agrees to withdraw all its forces from Gaza. Israel has stated that it will not cease hostilities until Hamas is destroyed and all hostages are freed.

Hamas also warned that if the hostages are not freed by Trump’s inauguration, “their lives will become hell.” Hamas official Osama Hamdan called on Donald Trump to be more disciplined and diplomatic in his statements.

According to Gaza health officials, nearly 46,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants invaded Israeli territory. According to Israel, 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were taken hostage during the attacks.
