After Donald Trump returned to the White House, the number of illegal migrants crossing the U.S. border has decreased by 90%, New York Post reports. According to the publication, in February, border agents detained an average of 359 migrants per day — the lowest figure in the past 60 years.
To tighten control, Trump deployed 1,500 military personnel to the border and reached an agreement with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
According to media reports, after Washington threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Mexican goods, Mexico deployed 10,000 troops to the border to curb the migrant flow. Additionally, Trump plans to require all asylum seekers to wait for their status decisions while staying in Mexico.
Since early February, large-scale raids against illegal migrants violating U.S. laws have begun. As a result, 11,000 people have been detained, with some being deported on military aircraft.
Compared to Joe Biden’s administration, illegal migration to the U.S. has significantly decreased. In 2023, border agents detained an average of 5,590 people per day, while in early 2024, the number dropped to 2,872. Currently, it has fallen further to 369.
