Iran, Russia and China to hold navy drills

Iran plans to hold navy drills with China and Russia by the end of March, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said. According to him, the tentative start date of the exercise has been set for 19 March. Besides Russia and China, Iran has also invited other countries to participate in the manoeuvres.

The purpose of drills, according to Irani, is to ensure regional security and protect common interests. In March 2023, Russia, Iran and China have already held navy drills called "Maritime Security Belt-2023" in the Gulf of Oman. The Russian side participated with ships from the Northern Fleet, including the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov and the medium sea tanker Kama.

Also in February, Russia and China conducted joint maritime drills with South Africa off its coast, the fourth joint drill in recent years.
