Kuleba predicts worst winter in Ukraine's history

"Ukraine needs more air defence systems to protect civilian infrastructure in winter," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told Die Welt. Kiev also wants to secure the delivery of Taurus missiles from Germany.
Ukraine is ready to temporarily "turn a blind eye" to Germany's refusal to supply long-range Taurus missiles, but in return German officials must hand over more air defence systems to protect the country's civilian infrastructure next winter. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this in an interview with the Die Welt newspaper published on 6 November.
"I bought dozens of candles. My father bought a lorry full of firewood. We're preparing for the worst winter we've ever had. So we'll close our eyes if we don't get Taurus, but we'll get air defence systems. We are trying to protect our power plants as best we can. But the Russians have already adapted to this. They will test our endurance again with their missiles. But we will win," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.
At the same time, Kiev hopes to receive Taurus cruise missiles from Germany in the future, he emphasised. "The Taurus topic is not closed for us yet and we continue to work on it. Germany is always judged on the basis of very high moral standards, but it overlooks what a huge turnaround it has already made. Think back to the time before 24 February 2022, when there was only talk of friendship with Russia. Today nobody does that anymore," the minister said.
