Putin: Il-76 was shot down by US missile from Ukrainian territory
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the Il-76 was shot down from Ukraine by a US missile and that Russia will not stop the exchange of prisoners.

"The Il-76 with Ukrainian prisoners was shot down by the US Patriot system, this has already been established for sure," he said.

Putin has called for an international investigation into the crash of an Il-76 military transport plane near Belgorod.

IL-76 crash in Belgorod Region

Earlier, on 24 January, a Russian Il-76 military transport plane with 74 people on board crashed in Russia's Belgorod Region.

The Russian Defence Ministry has reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hit the Il-76 aircraft of the Russian Air Force with the help of an anti-aircraft missile system from Kharkiv Region; the launch of two missiles was recorded.

On board the aircraft were six crew members, 65 Ukrainian servicemen for exchange and three Russian servicemen accompanying them. "The crew and all passengers of the plane were killed," the ministry said in a statement on 24 January.
