Samarkand and Konya Officially Become Sister Cities

Cultural and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkey has reached a new level as Samarkand and the Turkish city of Konya signed a sister-city agreement. The cities plan to implement joint projects in the fields of economy, tourism, IT, education, and other key sectors.

On February 10, in Konya, the mayor of Samarkand, Fazliddin Umarov, and the mayor of Konya, Ibrahim Altay, signed the agreement. This document solidifies their commitment to developing cooperation based on trust, equality, and mutual respect.

The partnership will cover economy, investment, education, healthcare, sports, culture, tourism, IT, and environmental initiatives. Additionally, the cities agreed to support entrepreneurs, implement joint projects, and promote social initiatives.

Konya is one of Turkey’s largest cities and serves as a major scientific, industrial, and agricultural center. It is also actively developing its technology and innovation sectors, offering new opportunities for collaboration.

The signing of this agreement took place as part of a professional exchange program for Uzbek regional leaders. Among the Uzbek delegation was Bobur Bekmurodov, chairman of the "Yuksalish" movement, who discussed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation with the mayor of Konya.

The sister-city partnership between Samarkand and Konya marks an important step in strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and Turkey and creating new opportunities for economic and cultural development.
