The President inspected the first transport project in Uzbekistan, connecting the airport and the railway station
Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the new railway line connecting Urgench International Airport with the Khiva railway station.
Our country places special emphasis on developing transport infrastructure, integrating various modes of transport, and creating a convenient transportation system for residents and tourists. The project implemented in the Khorezm region is aimed at achieving these goals.
As part of the 225 billion soum project, a new 11-kilometer railway line connecting Urgench International Airport and the railway station was built. The line includes one station, a bridge, road crossings, and 25 culverts.
The new route will provide transportation for approximately 650,000 local and foreign tourists annually. Travel time between Khiva and Urgench will be halved – from 80 to 40 minutes. The project has created approximately 30 new jobs.
Notably, this is the first project in the country to directly connect an airport to the rail network. A Chinese-made CR200J electric train is being launched on the Urgench International Airport–Khiva route.
This six-car train can carry approximately 400 passengers at a time and reaches speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The carriages offer VIP, business, and economy class seating, free Wi-Fi, charging facilities for electronic devices, and modern air conditioning and heating systems. Accessible travel arrangements have also been created for passengers with disabilities.
The head of state arrived in Khiva aboard the new electric train.
In Khiva, the President also inspected the new trolleybuses that will operate on the route connecting Urgench International Airport with the Khiva railway station.
Ten trolleybuses, imported from China in July of this year, are equipped with a modern autonomous driving system: even without being connected to an electrical grid, they can travel up to 100 kilometers.
Each trolleybus can accommodate 87 passengers. They are equipped with amenities for passengers with disabilities, the elderly, and passengers with children, USB and Type-C ports, and external and internal CCTV cameras. Driver monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic fire suppression systems are also included.
The initiative to acquire these modern vehicles was put forward by the President during his visit to the Khorezm region last year.
The head of state noted that the integration of various modes of transport will contribute to the convenience of residents and tourists, reduce travel times, and enhance the region's tourist appeal. Responsible officials have been given the necessary instructions to ensure safe and high-quality passenger service.
