Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Set Next Steps for Territorial Exchange

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed on the next practical steps for the exchange of land plots. At a meeting of the joint commission, the sides outlined procedures covering citizenship, population relocation, the transfer of state property and the registration of property rights.
The meeting was held in the Kadamjay district of Batken Region. The Kyrgyz delegation was headed by Kamchibek Dosmatov, First Deputy Minister of Labour, while the Uzbek side was led by Botir Kudratkhodjaev, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
Following the meeting, the parties approved the composition of a joint working group comprising representatives of relevant ministries, government agencies and local authorities from both countries. The group will address citizenship issues for residents of the territories being exchanged, relocation arrangements, the transfer and acceptance of state-owned facilities, property rights and land-use matters.
The working group will also focus on social protection and ensuring continuity of the education process for residents of the affected territories.
Its representatives will visit the territories concerned and regularly report to the co-chairs of the joint commission on the progress and results of their work. According to the information provided, the working group has already begun its practical activities.
