President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on December 25, following the tragic crash of an "Azerbaijan Airlines" passenger plane near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, which resulted in numerous fatalities. This was reported by the President's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.

Earlier, it was reported that an Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku to Grozny had crashed in Kazakhstan. According to available information, the aircraft was carrying 67 passengers and 5 crew members. The Kazakhstan Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 32 passengers survived and were taken to hospitals. Among the passengers were 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz citizens. The survivors included 14 Azerbaijani citizens, 10 Russians, and 2 Kyrgyz nationals. The citizenship of three injured individuals is yet to be confirmed. The plane lost control after colliding with a flock of birds and was forced to attempt an emergency landing at Atyrau Airport.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced his return to Baku from the informal CIS summit in connection with the tragedy. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the families of the victims and injured, wishing a speedy recovery to all those affected.
