"Uzbekistan is an important partner for Pakistan to gain access to the markets of Central Asia, the CIS, and Eastern European countries. Transporting goods by rail through Termiz is one of the most convenient solutions for reaching these markets. At the same time, we have all the necessary opportunities to develop alternative routes for cargo transportation," said Zahiruddin Babar, Director of Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC).
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Alisher To’xtayev, along with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, "Uzsanoatqurilishmateriallari," "Uztextile Industry," "Uzcharmsanoat" associations, and entrepreneurs from Surkhandarya region, visited Karachi, Pakistan, on a working visit.
During the visit, the Uzbek delegation got acquainted with the operations of NLC's off-dock terminal. In addition, negotiations were held with the company's leadership on fully utilizing the transport and logistics potential between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
Zahiruddin Babar, Director General for International Transport of NLC, emphasized that Pakistan sees Uzbekistan as a strategic route for accessing northern markets and considers the "Termiz Cargo Center" a reliable partner for implementing key logistics projects.
The discussions highlighted NLC's technical capabilities, logistics infrastructure—including off-dock terminals and their services—, experience in transporting goods by sea, air, and land, as well as its operations under the "door-to-door" principle and "TIR" conditions.
As part of the Central and South Asia regional connectivity initiative, coordination efforts were made for a new "Torkham-Termiz" transport corridor project, which includes an agreement for 100 NLC trucks to operate in shuttle mode for regular cargo transport.
The parties also discussed simplifying customs procedures, optimizing payments, improving transport conditions, and facilitating logistics processes. Specific tasks were outlined to quickly eliminate barriers affecting the smooth flow of transport and logistics operations.
Following the meeting, the Uzbek delegation visited NLC’s large off-dock terminal in Karachi to assess its facilities and warehouse capabilities. A proposal was made to develop cooperation with the "International Cargo Center" in Termiz, including the establishment of joint warehouse facilities.
