The US and Russia are moving forward in peace talks
This is the first meeting between representatives of Russia and the US since Donald Trump took office as president. The talks were attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, as well as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Stephen Whitkoff.

Key points of negotiations

Possible meeting between Putin and Trump - the parties are interested in organizing the summit, but the timing has not yet been determined. Trump stated that the meeting "probably" will take place before the end of the month.

Russia's position on Ukraine - Moscow insists that NATO officially withdraw its promise to Kyiv of future membership. According to Maria Zakharova, without this "the problem will continue to poison the atmosphere in Europe."

Kyiv's reaction - Ukraine rejects any decisions without its participation. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the country will continue to fight for territorial integrity.

Pressure on Europe - The EU is concerned about a potential deal between the US and Russia. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that "no decisions should be made behind Ukraine's back."

Following the talks, the parties agreed to establish working groups to discuss Ukraine's issues and bilateral relations. However, there are no signs of compromise yet: Lavrov said Moscow would not allow NATO troops to be present in Ukraine, and Rubio noted that a peaceful settlement would require compromises from all sides.

Dialogue between Russia and the US has resumed, but its effectiveness will only be seen in time.
