TikTok Restores Service in the USA
Business
On January 19, TikTok began restoring its services in the United States. This occurred after President Donald Trump, the 47th president, announced on Monday that he had decided to extend the deadline before the TikTok ban went into effect.
Trump also stated that the U.S. wanted a 50% stake in TikTok. His remarks became known after a meeting held before the inauguration, where he said, "Honestly, we have no choice. We need to keep it."
A few hours ago, TikTok sent a message to its users, saying, "Thanks to President Trump's efforts, TikTok has returned to the U.S." In its statement, TikTok emphasized that all necessary measures were taken during the restoration process, and cooperation with providers would continue.
Previously, TikTok users had faced difficulties accessing the app, and it was not available on U.S. app stores. However, TikTok soon began restoring its services and announced that it had decided to continue serving its users. TikTok also stated that it would continue to serve over 170 million American users and provide growth opportunities to more than 7 million small businesses.
TikTok's return coincided with a period of escalating tensions between Trump and China. Trump had warned of the risk of misuse of American data because TikTok belongs to China's ByteDance. However, Trump is now seeking to negotiate and form a joint venture with TikTok.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in turn, stated that companies must make independent decisions regarding their operations and transactions. Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized, "TikTok has been operating in the U.S. for many years and is well-liked by American users."
