US President Donald Trump has announced what he described as an unprecedented “economic war and isolation” against Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed Tehran’s failure, in his view, to take advantage of opportunities to reach an agreement.

Trump warned that countries whose financial institutions, companies, airports or government entities provide support to Iran would face serious economic consequences from the United States.

“This will be economic war and isolation on an unprecedented scale,” Trump wrote. He also called on US allies to join efforts to isolate Iran economically.

The US president compared the campaign to the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944, describing it as an “economic D-Day.” The post did not provide details of specific new economic measures.

Trump concluded by reiterating that Iran would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. The announcement comes amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran and the absence of a functioning agreement to end the conflict.
