The UN Security Council will vote on Friday, 22 March, on a draft resolution on an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip submitted by the United States. This is reported by DPA.

UN to vote on resolution on immediate ceasefire in Gaza
The document proposed by the US marks a change of course for Washington. Since October 2023, the US - a close ally of Israel - has vetoed ceasefire resolutions three times in the UN Security Council. However, amid rising civilian casualties and the threat of famine in the Gaza Strip, they are increasing pressure on Israel, DPA notes.

For the first time in a UN resolution, the US draft condemns all acts of terrorism, including the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attacks, as well as hostage-taking and murder, killing civilians and sexual violence, including rape.
