US and Russian defence chiefs exchange views on the situation in Ukraine

Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin have exchanged views on the situation around Ukraine. This was reported by Anadolu news agency with reference to the Russian Defence Ministry.
The telephone conversation took place at the initiative of the American side.
"A.R. Belousov pointed to the danger of further escalating the situation through continued supplies of American weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces. The parties also discussed other issues," the report says.
Earlier on the telephone conversation between the heads of the defence departments of Russia and the United States was reported by Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder.
"During the call, the Secretary emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication amid Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine," Ryder said.
The Pentagon spokesman also recalled that Austin last spoke with former Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on March 15, 2023.
