The United States has announced a full entry ban on citizens of seven African and Asian countries following a recent review of migration and security risks, according to a White House statement.

The ban applies to nationals of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria. In addition, Laos and Sierra Leone, previously subject to partial restrictions, have now been added to the full ban list.

The decision reflects the tougher migration stance of President Donald Trump’s administration. Last month, Trump said he intended to permanently suspend migration from so-called third-world countries and end federal benefits for non-citizens.

He also pledged to deport foreign nationals deemed a security threat or a public burden. Earlier, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recommended a full entry ban on countries she said fail to ensure adequate migration control.
